The Phoenix girls' soccer team continued its ascension through the Skyline Conference standings on Thursday, scoring a 2-1 victory at Mazama.
The Pirates (2-2-1 in the conference, 3-3-2 overall) opened an early 2-0 lead before holding off the Vikings for the victory. PHS is tied for third in the conference and jumped to 14th in the state rankings.
Maggie Carrillo scored a goal and assisted Mackenize Christianson on another for PHS. Alondra Rubalcaba, Sandra Villa and Lupita Alegria all stepped up defensively for the Pirates, who return to action Tuesday when they travel to Klamath Union.
