Impressive 9-0 win for Pirates

The goals came early and often as the Phoenix girls' soccer team got things going on Tuesday.

The Pirates opened a 6-0 halftime lead and never looked back on the way to a 9-0 shutout of visiting Marshfield in a non-conference match at Colver Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Madelyn Mayer scored a hat trick while Maggie Carrillo and Jackie Rodriguez both added two goals. Mackenzie Christianson also scored while Marshfield put one of the Pirate goals in its own. Carrillo added two assists and Christianson one.

Marcella Badillo worked the shutout in goal for Phoenix, which is 1-1 on the season and ranked 20th in the state. The Pirates return to action on Thursday, visiting Cottage Grove.
