The Phoenix boys' basketball played two very good quarters of basketball on Friday night.
It was the other two quarters that proved costly in a 78-58 loss at Henley in a Skyline Conference game.
PHS fell behind 16-2 after one quarter as the host Hornets came out hot from the field. Phoenix rallied, outscoring Henley 40-36 over the second and third quarters, eventually cutting the lead to four points, before the Hornets put the game away with a 26-16 scoring surge over the final eight minutes.
Neco Ortega scored 17 points and Ethan Hutsell 16 for the Pirates (11-10 overall, 2-5 in conference play). PHS returns to action Tuesday, hosting Mazama.
