The Phoenix boys' soccer team worked out the kinks on Thursday afternoon.
The Skyline Conference champion Pirates hadn't played a match in a week and looked rusty earlier before rallying past Cascade Christian for a 4-2 win in non-conference play at Colver Field. PHS will open the OSAA 4A playoffs on Wednesday, hosting an opponent to be determined.
The visiting Challengers scored in the third minute of the match before Phoenix responded with three unanswered goals in the first half. Jacob Jee, Alex Salcido and Bryson Flenner all scored during an 18-minute stretch. Cascade responded with a goal before halftime, cutting the lead to 3-2 before the Pirates' Gustavo Pinon scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half.
Phoenix is 8-3-2 on the season heading into the playoffs.
