With the stakes getting bigger, the Phoenix boys' soccer team continues to step up to the plate.
The Pirates scored another impressive win on Thursday night, downing host Henley 2-1 in a Skyline Conference match in Klamath Falls.
The win keeps PHS (6-2 Skyline, 6-2-2 overall) tied with Hidden Valley for the conference lead with two matches to play. Ranked sixth in the state, the Pirates are home for both matches next week while hosts Henley and rival North Valley in the final week of Skyline play.
Sergio Urena and Jacob Jee scored for Phoenix in Thursday's win as the Pirates outshot Henley 14-4. Kassem Akil added an assist for Phoenix, which allowed a goal with about 10 minutes to play but held the Hornets scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the win.
PHS hosts Mazama on Monday beginning at 4:30 at Colver Field.
